I have been a member of Cottenham Parish Council for 16 years, including Chair for 3 of them, having lived in the village for 17 years. I am a widower, and my daughter lives in Cottenham with my granddaughter and grandson. I have a son and daughter-in-law who live in Harrogate, North Yorkshire which is where we moved from in 2001.

I have been retired for some years, having spent all my working life in the insurance industry, my last role being the Development Manager of an Insurance Broker in Leeds, before which I was the Regional Manager for the North East of England for the Norwich Union ( now Aviva ).

One of my roles is as a Trustee of the Cottenham United Charities; such body looks after the almshouses and the allotments. Not surprisingly I have an allotment, which I have had for many years. It is hard work the older you get, but the best of it is digging up produce! I was a Trustee of the Ladybird Pre School for about 10 years, and stood down a few years ago to give younger people an opportunity to serve the village in this capacity.

I have always been interested in sport, but I am resigned to being a spectator now, particularly as far as football, cricket and rugby league are concerned. I have been a member of Tottenham Hotspur FC for well over 40 years, and many of my best friends follow Arsenal, which makes life interesting!
