I am a farmer based at Mitchell Hill Farm, Twentypence Road and I have lived in the village all of my life.
I am Chairman of the Old West Internal District Drainage board and Chairman of the Swaffham Internal District Drainage Board, both part of the Ely group of drainage boards. I am also on the Board of Trustees of the British School Trust and Cottenham Charities.
My interests include fishing and shooting, conservation and bird watching.
Dear Mr Graves,
I am researching family history for a cousin whose family have lived at Mitchell Hill Farm. My Uncle William Humphreys was thought to have been posted there with the RAF during WW2 for the construction of a ‘Dummy Airfield’ I have found crop marks from an areal photo, which would appear to back this up. I wondered if you knew any more of this aspect of your farm’s history in particular, but I would also be interested in any other general history of the farm. Do you know what would the be producing during the war years? I have a photo of Uncle Bill haymaking on the farm but we know very little else.
Hoping you can give me any more little snippets of information,
With Thanks,
Pam Bates
